Sonargaon University held its second convocation 2025 on Sunday at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.
The event was presided over by Interim Government Adviser for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare Sharmin S Murshid, while Adviser for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended as the convocation speaker.
Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed joined the programme as the special guest.

Also present were Sonargaon University Trustee Board Chairman and Founder Engineer Abdul Azaz, General Secretary and Founder Engineer Md Abdul Alim, Trustee Board Executive Member Advocate Umme Salma, Trustee Board Adviser Azizul Bari Shipu and L Mir Abdul Alim.
The programme was further attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamim Ara Hasan, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Bulbul Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Mohammad Ekramul Islam, along with deans, department heads, teachers and students.
Graduates who completed their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various programmes from Spring 2021 to Summer 2025 took part in the convocation.
A total of 96 meritorious students received gold medals at the ceremony, including 13 Chancellor’s Gold Medals and 83 Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medals.
As part of the convocation, the university undertook an environment-friendly initiative through a tree plantation campaign.

Students participating in the campaign planted two saplings each and shared videos of the activity on social media, after which a raffle draw was held.
Under the lottery, the first prize of Tk50,000 in cash, the second prize of a laptop and the third prize of a smartphone were awarded, while seven more participants received attractive prizes.
The second part of the programme featured cultural performances, with the band Warfaze, Mahtim Sakib and Shahriar Chowdhury entertaining the audience.
Dance and music performances organised by Sonargaon University Cultural Club added to the festive atmosphere of the event.
