Mehazabien Chowdhury’s acclaimed film ‘Saba’ has made its digital debut, arriving on streaming platform Hoichoi following its theatrical run earlier this year.
The 90-minute drama, directed by Maksud Hossain, began streaming on December 19. Hoichoi announced the release through a social media post highlighting the film as an intimate portrait of responsibility, resilience and survival centred on a mother and daughter living in the city.
Saba explores the life of a young woman forced to shoulder overwhelming responsibility after her mother, Shirin, is left paralysed by a road accident. With her father absent, Saba becomes both caregiver and provider, putting her own ambitions on hold as financial strain and emotional pressure mount. Her struggle intensifies when a sudden medical emergency demands urgent treatment for her mother.
The screenplay was written by Maksud Hossain and Trilora Khan. Alongside Mehazabien, the cast includes Rokeya Prachy and Mostafa Monwar.
Before its local cinema release on September 26, Saba enjoyed a successful international festival journey. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was later screened at Busan, Red Sea, Gothenburg, Osaka and Dallas film festivals. In March, it won third prize in the Asian Cinema Competition at the Bangalore International Film Festival.
