Police have recovered the body of Jannat Ara Rumi, a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), from a female hostel in Dhaka.
Her body was found hanging in a room on the fifth floor of Jannati Women’s Hostel in Jigatola, under Hazaribagh Police Station in Dhaka. The hostel is adjacent to the Jigatola kitchen market.
Jannat Ara was the daughter of Md Zakir Hossain. Their hometown is in Nazirpur village in Naogaon.
She had been serving as joint coordinator of the NCP’s Dhanmondi Thana Coordination Committee, which was announced on 6 November.
According to police, Jannat Ara had been married twice and divorced. They also said Rumi was not studying anywhere at the time.
Hazaribagh Police Station’s Sub‑inspector Matiur Rahman said the body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed with Hazaribagh Police Station, he added.
However, police said they are investigating whether it was a suicide or a murder.
