Bangladesh Under-19s moved closer to the semi finals of the Youth Asia Cup after a comfortable seven wicket win over Nepal in their second group match, chasing down a modest target with more than 25 overs to spare.
After opting to bowl first, Bangladesh dismissed Nepal for 130, turning the innings decisively after a steady start from the opposition. Nepal reached 40 without loss before a collapse saw them lose six wickets for 41 runs, slipping to 81 for six and never recovering.
Abhishek was Nepal’s top scorer with 30, while wicketkeeper Ashok Dhami added 23. No other batter reached 20. For Bangladesh, Mohammad Sabuj led the attack with three wickets, while Shahriar Ahmed and Azizul Hakim took two apiece and Shahriar Al Amin claimed one.
In reply, Bangladesh’s chase was anchored by opener Jawad Abrar, who remained unbeaten on 70 from 68 balls. His innings ensured there were no late complications despite early setbacks.
Fellow opener Rifat Beg was dismissed for five from seven balls, and captain Azizul Hakim Tamim was run out for one after coming in at number three. Jawad then found a reliable partner in Kalam Siddiki, who scored 34 from 66 deliveries.
Their third wicket stand of 92 from 115 balls effectively sealed the match, allowing Bangladesh to progress comfortably. Jawad later finished the game alongside Rizan Hossain.
Abhishek Tiwari and Yuvraj Khatri picked up the two wickets to fall during the chase for Nepal, but the target proved far too small to defend.
The win follows Bangladesh’s opening match victory over Afghanistan by three wickets, leaving them well placed in the group stage of the tournament.
