Members of Bangladesh Army has arrested two suspected terrorists from Lakshmipur with five firearms and 16 rounds of ammunition during a late-night operation.
The arrests were made in the early hours of Saturday following a raid in Birahimpur area of Bashikpur Union under Sadar upazila.
The arrestees were Alauddin alias Barkat, son of late Sultan Ahmed of Birahimpur village in Bashikpur Union, and Parvez Hossain, son of late Syed Ahmed of Samsherabad village in Lakshmipur municipal area.
Alauddin faces multiple cases, including murder, robbery, abduction, extortion and narcotics offences.
According to Army sources, a team from the Lakshmipur Sadar Camp, led by Lieutenant Imtiaz Hossain conducted the operation at a rented house of Barkat in Birahimpur village around midnight. Barkat and Parvez were arrested with arms and ammunition, while three others present at the house managed to flee.
Those who escaped are also reportedly accused in several cases.
During the raid, the Army recovered one foreign-made revolver with six rounds of ammunition, four locally made LG firearms, and 10 rounds of LG ammunition.
Captain Md Rahat Khan of the Lakshmipur Army Camp said the operation was part of regular drives against terrorists.
