Police have arrested a teenager in connection with the murder of freedom fighter and his wife Suborna Roy in Tanore, Rangpur.

The teenager was arrested on Thursday night from the Khiyar Jumma area of Tanore upazila.

The arrested teenager works as a mason’s assistant.

According to the police, the teenager was arrested from his home in the Khiyar Jumma area of Tanore upazila on Thursday night with the help of information technology.

One source said the arrested teenager is likely 15 or 16 years old, though the exact age could not be immediately confirmed.

When asked about the case, Rangpur Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain said, “Important information has been gathered during the initial interrogation. He has also mentioned the Chinese axe used in the murder. We will go to recover the weapon with him. Further details about the motive behind the murder will be shared in a briefing later.”

On December 6, police discovered the bloody bodies of Bir Muktijoddha Yogesh Chandra Roy, the chairman of the Kursha Union Freedom Fighters Command Council and a retired headmaster of a government primary school, and his wife Suborna Roy, at their home in East Rahimapur, Tanore.

The bodies were cremated after an autopsy the following day.

In this regard, their elder son, Shoven Chandra Roy, filed a murder case at the Tanore Police Station, naming unidentified persons as the suspects. The teenager was arrested in connection with this case.
