Police have arrested Ayesha, the domestic worker suspected of killing a mother and daughter in Mohammadpur, from Jhalakathi after days of search efforts.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest in an official statement.

The bodies of Laila Afroz, 48, and her daughter Nafisa Lawal Binte Aziz, 15, were found with their throats slit in their seventh-floor flat on Shajahan Road near Dhaka Residential Model College last Monday.

Laila’s husband, Azizul Islam, filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station naming the domestic worker as the sole accused. Police later learned that Ayesha had approached the building’s doorman four days before the murders seeking work, and was sent to the family as they needed a house help.

According to the building’s security staff, Ayesha had been arriving at the home around 7am daily and leaving after about three hours. She followed the same routine on Monday, shortly before the murders took place after Azizul Islam left for work.

When he returned, he discovered the bodies of his wife and daughter. CCTV footage later showed Ayesha leaving the flat wearing Nafisa’s school uniform and departing in a rickshaw.

With no valid identity documents or verified address, police and intelligence units conducted operations in several districts before locating and arresting her in Jhalakathi. Further investigation is underway.
