8 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) have recovered an abandoned one-shooter gun and two rounds of live ammunition from Ukhiya Rohingya Camp-15 in Cox’s Bazar.
At around 12:30am on Tuesday, members of APBn’s Jamtali Police Camp conducted this operation based on a tip.
Md Riaz Uddin Ahmed, superintendent of Police and Commander of 8 APBn, confirmed the matter.
He informed that around 12:30am, information was received that a few miscreants were stationed on the road near H-1 Block of Camp-15 with the intention of committing crimes. Based on the information, an operation was conducted at the scene. Sensing the presence of police, the miscreants fled into the darkness.
Later, a search was conducted on the northwest side of the BRAC Learning Center adjacent to the area, where an abandoned one-shooter gun wrapped in an old white t-shirt and two rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
The recovered weapon and bullets have been handed over to Ukhiya Police Station. A General Diary (GD) has been filed at Jamtali Police Camp regarding this incident, with number 171.
The APBn police officer stated that special anti-narcotics and anti-arms operations are ongoing to maintain normal security conditions in the Rohingya camp area.
