A doctor at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital has issued an unconditional apology after engaging in an argument with the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Md Abu Jafar, during an inspection visit.
Dr Dhanadeb Chandra Barman, who served as the casualty in-charge, submitted his response to a show-cause notice to the hospital director on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the DG visited the hospital after attending a seminar at Mymensingh Medical College. While inspecting the facility, he questioned the presence of a table inside the casualty operation theatre and asked Dr Barman to explain.
An argument followed, after which Dr Barman was relieved of his duties and issued a show-cause notice.
Hospital sources said Dr Barman is generally known for his good behaviour, but frustration over not receiving a promotion for a long time had affected him.
They added that the argument escalated because the DG repeatedly questioned the presence of a single table rather than inquiring into broader problems at the hospital.
The hospital authorities are expected to take further action after reviewing his explanation.
