Mustafizur Rahman delivered an assured performance on Saturday for Dubai Capitals in the International League T20, where the Bangladesh left arm seamer marked his debut with two wickets, although his side were beaten by Gulf Giants.
Mustafizur was introduced in the second over of the innings and made an immediate impact, removing Rahmanullah Gurbaz with his very first ball. The early strike dragged Dubai back into the contest at a point when Gulf looked set for a fluent start.
Returning for his second spell, he again found reward. Bowling the first ball of the twelfth over, he dismissed the in form Pathum Nissanka, who had been threatening to take the game away from Dubai. Nissanka had played with the sort of intent that has made him such a dangerous presence at the top of the order, and Mustafizur’s intervention briefly steadied his side.
He completed his four overs for 26 runs and two wickets, a controlled display that underlined why Dubai brought him in for this campaign.
Dubai had earlier posted 160 for six, a total that always felt slightly under par. Gulf chased it down with six wickets in hand and five balls remaining, closing out the match despite the resistance offered by Mustafizur with the ball.
