TikTok has announced a set of updates aimed at helping users better understand and control how AI-generated content appears on the platform, saying the move is part of its effort to promote responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The company said in a press release that a new control for AI-generated content will be introduced on a test basis under the “Manage Topics” feature, allowing people to adjust how much AI-created material appears in their For You feed.
TikTok said the control will help users increase or reduce the volume of AI content they see without restricting the diversity of creative posts on the platform, adding that it complements existing personalisation tools such as keyword filters and the “not interested” option.
The platform is also enhancing its AI labelling systems to strengthen transparency. TikTok said it already uses creator labels, AI detection models and C2PA Content Credentials to identify AI-generated videos, and has labelled more than 1.3 billion such posts so far.
The company said it is now testing “invisible watermarking,” a system that embeds a secure, non-removable digital marker that only TikTok’s systems can detect, even after a video is edited or reposted. TikTok said invisible watermarks will be added in the coming weeks to AI-generated content created with TikTok tools such as AI Editor Pro and to material uploaded with C2PA credentials.
TikTok said it is also expanding global AI education efforts through a new $2 million AI literacy fund to support nonprofits and experts producing content that teaches people how AI works, how to identify AI-generated content and how to use AI safely and responsibly.
According to the company, partners in more than a dozen countries will create resources promoting media literacy, responsible tech use and awareness of TikTok’s transparency tools.
TikTok said the updates reinforce its commitment to helping its community navigate AI with confidence and added that it plans to expand its tools and global partnerships as AI technology evolves.
