Teachers of government secondary schools across the country have boycotted exams, pressing four demands, including bringing the post of assistant teacher under the BCS cadre.
The teachers under banner of Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers’ Association started the programme from Monday. The announcement was made from a sit-in protest in front of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Sunday.
According to the teachers, the annual examinations in secondary schools started from 24 November.
However, as they went on a work suspension, the ongoing annual examinations will remain suspended. If the demands are met, the exams will be conducted on holidays. At the same time, the results will be published within December, they announced.
The other three demands include speeding up the appointment, and promotion of teachers in vacant posts, and issuing the order for implementation of the overdue timescale and selection grade.
They also want the government to publish the gazette reinstating the advanced increased salary-benefits for assistant teachers with at least two increments.
Meanwhile, assistant teachers of government primary schools have announced the boycott of the annual examination across the country starting from Monday.
On Sunday, Shamsuddin Masud, the convener of the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council, said, “Until the notification for the 11th grade is issued, teachers of government primary schools will observe a full-day work suspension.
“During this time, they will not conduct any classes,” he added.
On the other hand, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has instructed that they will take action if the annual and junior scholarship examinations of students are not held as per the schedule.
The directorate issued this instruction amidst the announcement of a suspension by protesting teachers. Director Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel sent an urgent letter with these instructions to the deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers across the country around 9am.
Additionally, this letter has been sent to district and upazila education officers, and principals and headteachers of schools and colleges to take necessary measures for the smooth implementation of the examination activities.
