The Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance has been issued to establish a separate secretariat for the Supreme Court.
This ordinance was issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on the instructions of the President on Sunday. This information was disclosed in a press release.
Earlier, on 20 November, the Advisory Council of the government gave final approval to the draft of the “Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance, 2025” concerning the establishment of a separate secretariat for the Supreme Court.
The press release stated that, with the aim of ensuring the institutional independence of the judiciary, a proposal for the formation of a separate Judicial Secretariat was sent from the Supreme Court to the Ministry of Law on 27 October 2024 at the initiative of the Chief Justice.
That proposal included a complete proposal containing a draft ordinance aimed at establishing an independent secretariat to properly facilitate the High Court Division’s supervision and control of subordinate courts and tribunals in order to fulfill the purpose of Article 109 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, along with the organogram of the proposed secretariat and potential reforms to the “Rules of Business” and “Allocation of Business”.
The press release also stated that with the issuance of the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance, 2025, the wish of establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary has been realised through the positive cooperation of the interim government.
