At least 5 killed in Sitakunda road crash

At least five people have died in a road crash on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sitakunda.

The accident occurred after a bus crashed into a truck from behind, then lost control and fell into a ditch in the Batatala area around 6pm on Sunday.

All five deceased are male, though their identities remain unknown immediately till the filing of this report. Local residents promptly rescued the injured and transported them to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, according to hospital authorities.

Several individuals with severe injuries have been referred to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital for advanced treatment. Doctors at the health complex have reported that the condition of a number of injured is critical.

Kumira Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahadat Hossain stated, “Four individuals died at the scene. Another person passed away after being taken to the hospital. We are still confirming the exact number of injured.”

He further mentioned that rescue operations are being conducted by the Fire Service and police, with the injured being transferred to different hospitals.

While vehicular movement on the highway was temporarily disrupted due to the accident, the situation has since returned to normal, confirmed Shahadat.

Dr Mohammad Imran from the Emergency Department of Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex reported that 20 individuals have been brought to the health complex so far.

Among them, 12 have been transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment, while the rest are receiving care at the health complex.
