A court has granted five-day remand each for four individuals, including alleged shooters Md Faruq Hossain Faisal and Robin Ahmed Pias, in a case filed over public shooting and killing of Tarik Saif Mamun, 55, in front of National Medical College Hospital in Old Dhaka.
The other accused taken on remand are Md Rubel and Shamim Ahmed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibuzzaman approved the remand after a hearing on Sunday.
The police produced the four before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday after their initial four-day remand, in an arms case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station, came to end.
Subsequently, police sought a ten-day remand in the murder case filed with Sutrapur Police Station. The court granted the plea.
On 11 November, five individuals were arrested during raids at multiple locations in Dhaka, Narsingdi, and Sylhet. During the arrests, two foreign-made pistols, six rounds of ammunition, two magazines, two motorcycles, and Tk 1,53,640 were seized.
Police filed an arms case at Mohammadpur Police Station regarding this incident. The following day, on 12 November, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra granted a four-day remand for each accused in that case.
On 10 November, assailants opened fire on Mamun in front of National Medical College Hospital in Old Dhaka. Locals took the injured Mamun to National Medical College Hospital, and he was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Mamun’s wife, Bilkis Akter Ripa, filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station on 15 November. The case names 10 to 12 unidentified individuals as accused.
