The interim government has approved the procurement of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo and 70,000 tonnes of fertilisers in separate deals to address growing energy and agricultural demands.

The decisions were made during the 20th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year, chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Petrobangla will import one LNG cargo from the spot market through Singapore’s Gunvor Singapore Pte Limited through international quotation method at a cost of approximately Tk 586.46 crore, as per a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

To meet agricultural needs, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Morocco’s OCP NUTRICROPS under a state-level agreement.

The Tk 324.52 crore deal prices the fertiliser at $665 per tonne.

Additionally, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will import 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO for Tk 152.71 crore, with each tonne costing $417.25.

The committee also cleared various proposals from the ministries of railways, housing and public works, road transport and highways division, and the armed forces division, though details of these approvals were not immediately disclosed.
