Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has accused the Awami League of attempting to derail the upcoming national election, alleging that the party is resorting to arson and violence to disrupt the democratic process.
“The Awami League, a fascist political party, is proving through its acts of violence and destruction that terrorism is in its nature,” Shafiqul Alam said while speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning after laying the foundation stone for the new building of Kuliyara High School in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.
He, however, asserted that the 13th National Parliamentary Election will be held in the first half of February and that no internal or external force will be able to obstruct it.
“There will naturally be differences of opinion among political parties. We are not taking these disagreements too seriously,” Shafiqul Alam added.
“For the past nine months, political parties have held the largest and most cordial discussions in our history under the National Consensus Commission. We believe that some of their current differences will be resolved soon. All parties are preparing for the election”
He said BNP has already nominated candidates in 237 constituencies, and Jamaat-e-Islami is also fielding its own contenders. Despite differences, everyone wants a festive and participatory election.
The foundation-laying ceremony was presided over by Delwar Hossain Majumder, president of Kuliyara High School.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder attended as a special guest. Among others present were Chauddagram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chauddagram Police Station Md Hilal Uddin, and officials from various levels of the administration.
