Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is officially up for sale. Diageo, the UK-based parent company of United Spirits Ltd., has started looking for new owners. The goal is to complete the sale by March 31, 2026. The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) about the decision.

Diageo said the move is part of a “strategic review” of its investment in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd. (RCSPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of United Spirits Ltd. RCSPL owns the RCB team that plays in both the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Praveen Someswar, MD and CEO of USL, said RCB has been a valuable asset. However, it does not fit with their core alcoholic beverage business. He added that this decision allows USL and Diageo to focus on their main business while ensuring RCSPL’s interests are protected.

Reports say several major companies are interested in buying the Bengaluru franchise. Possible bidders include US private investment firms, the JSW Group, the Adani Group, Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute, and Ravi Jaipuria of Devyani International Group.

The sale process has begun, and cricket fans are watching closely. The new owners of one of IPL’s most popular teams could be announced before March 2026.
