Over 78 lakh people across Bangladesh have chosen Nagad, the digital financial service of the Bangladesh Postal Department, to receive government allowances for the fiscal year 2025–26, reflecting growing public confidence in its secure and accessible platform.
According to a press release, Nagad has disbursed around Tk 1,650 crore under various social safety net programmes of the Department of Social Services and the Mother and Child Benefit Programme of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Although this year’s disbursement window was open to all mobile financial service (MFS) operators, most beneficiaries in all 64 districts opted for Nagad for its convenience, reliability and ease of access.
More than 75 lakh beneficiaries received allowances worth around Tk 1,624 crore directly in their Nagad wallets.
The recipients include elderly citizens, widows, marginalised groups, persons with disabilities, members of the Bede community and third-gender individuals. Monthly payments were Tk 900 for persons with disabilities and Tk 650 for the elderly, widows and deserted women.
Under the Mother and Child Benefit Programme, Nagad disbursed maternity allowances of Tk 850 per month for 36 months to over 3 lakh mothers across the country.
Nagad Administrator Motasem Billah said millions of citizens across all districts have placed their trust in Nagad for receiving government allowances. “This trust motivates us to keep strengthening our digital infrastructure so that every beneficiary, even in remote areas, can access their rightful payments securely and instantly,” he said.
In the previous fiscal year 2024–25, the government disbursed over Tk 9,000 crore through Nagad. Building on that success, the latest disbursement underscores the government’s confidence in digital payment systems as an effective and transparent mechanism for delivering public services.
Through direct digital transfers, Nagad continues to play a key role in advancing financial inclusion and supporting the government’s vision for a fully digital Bangladesh.
