A powerful explosion at a police station in Kashmir, India, late Friday left at least nine people dead and 29 others injured, according to NDTV.
The blast occurred when a stockpile of seized explosives detonated.
Most of the victims were police officers and forensic experts who had been inspecting the materials stored at the site. Authorities warned that the death toll may rise, as five of the injured remain in critical condition.
Reuters reported that the cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed, and Jammu and Kashmir police have not issued an official statement.
A local officer told Reuters that the blast tore through the Nowgam police station, setting the compound ablaze. Fire crews were dispatched immediately, but casualties were feared.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a car bombing in Delhi just four days earlier, which killed at least eight people and was described by Indian officials as a terrorist attack.
