Eight Union Parishad (UP) chairmen in Singair upazila of Manikganj regained their responsibilities following a High Court directive.
Confirming the development, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairunnahar said the directive signed by Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Khan, acting deputy director of local government, reached her office last Sunday.
Once the official letter is received, the chairmen will resume their duties in line with the court order.
The chairmen are Md Ramzan Ali (Talebpur Union), Dewan Md Jinnah (Bayra Union), Md Ripon Hossain (Charigram Union), Engineer Shahadat Hossain (Joymontop Union), Md Shawkat Hossain (Chandhar Union), Mohammad Zahidul Islam (Dhalla Union), Md Halim (Sayesta Union), and Abul Hossain (Jamirta Union).
On 31 July last year, the Manikganj district administration appointed government officials as administrators in nine Union Parishads of Singair, replacing elected chairmen, following instructions from the LGRD ministry.
Later the chairmen challenged the legality of the move in separate writ petitions.
On 3 March, a High Court bench comprising Justice Razzak Al‑Jalil and Justice Md Anwarul Islam declared the administrator appointments illegal and issued a ruling.
Acting on that verdict, the Local Government Division has now directed the reinstatement of the elected chairmen.
The reinstated chairmen said they will formally take charge of their respective Union Parishads once the government’s instruction is in hand.
