Police arrested eight suspected robbers while they were preparing for a robbery on Friday night in Sonargaon of Narayanganj.
Confirming the incident, Sonargaon Police Station’s acting officer-in-charge (OC) Md Mohibullah said locals beat the “robbers” before handing them over to the police.
The arrestees are Shipon, Mintu Mia, Digendra Barman, Raju Mia, Hriday Bishwas, Abdullah, Zakirul, and Sagar.
Local sources said a gang was preparing for a robbery with locally made weapons in the Singlabo Bridge area.
They tried to flee when a police team was patrolling the area, said police official Mohibullah.
As police chased them, locals rushed, caught them, and beat them. Later, they were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Preparations are underway to file a case against them.
