The 10-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to wait until the final hour for Islami Andolan Bangladesh to confirm its participation, Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer said on Saturday.
Speaking at a press briefing following an emergency meeting of Jamaat’s top forum, Jubayer said the seats allocated for Islami Andolan remain vacant.
“Under the previous 11-party agreement, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s constituencies are still unfilled. For now, the 10 parties will wait until the last moment,” he said.
He added that if Islami Andolan ultimately decides not to join, the 47 vacant seats will be filled through the liaison committee comprising representatives from the 10 parties.
“The committee will discuss and finalise candidates for the vacant seats if Islami Andolan does not come forward,” Jubayer explained.
The meeting also addressed Jamaat’s election strategy for the upcoming national polls. Earlier, on Thursday, the 10-party leaders had announced plans to contest 253 seats while leaving 47 seats vacant.
