Eight people were fined Tk12,000 on Thursday for violating the code of conduct in two constituencies in Jhalakathi during the 13th parliamentary election and referendum.
Additional District Commissioner (General) Kowsar Hossen said they were penalised following allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct.
To ensure free and fair elections, 16 executive magistrates are performing their duties across four upazilas of Jhalakathi. The administration has stated that a “zero tolerance” policy will be followed regarding any incidents of code of conduct violations.
The administration and law enforcement agencies remain active in the field to maintain a peaceful environment in the Jhalakathi-1 and Jhalakathi-2 constituencies.
