Six workers sustained burn injuries when hot coal scattered from a boiler at a factory in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazila.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at the Bashundhara cement factory in Madanganj.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the injured workers were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He said, “Although several workers were burned, no fire broke out. That is why the factory authorities did not inform us. Later, when contacted, they said the accident happened as hot coal scattered while being loaded into the boiler.”
The injured are Taijul Islam, 35, Kamal Hossain, 45, Md Nahid Hasan, 22, Ferdous, 35, Atikur Rahman, 42, and Torab Ali, 55.
DMCH Resident Surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman said Taijul suffered burns on 12 percent of his body, Kamal 26 percent, Nahid 40 percent, Ferdous 10 percent, Atikur 27 percent, and Torab 16 percent.
“All six have sustained damage to their respiratory tracts,” he added.
