A total of 5,600 postal ballots have been returned from Malaysia and Italy as the addresses of the voters could not be located.
Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah shared this information with journalists at the Election Commission Secretariat on Monday.
According to the Election Commissioner, 4,000 ballots were returned from Malaysia, while another 1,600 were sent back from Italy.
He explained that the ballots failed to reach the concerned voters in these countries because the correct addresses of the expatriates were not available.
For the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 February, a total of 1.533 million (15.33 lakh) voters have registered to cast their votes via postal ballots.
Addressing concerns regarding the integrity of the process, Commissioner Sanaullah stated that Face Detection technology is being utilised to ensure that no one other than the designated voter can cast a postal ballot.
He further clarified that misleading information is currently being circulated on social media regarding this matter. He urged the public not to be swayed by such misinformation, asserting that there is no scope for fraudulent voting through this system.
