Police recovered the hanging body of a 17-year-old domestic worker named Sonia from a house in West Chowdhurypara, under Hatirjheel Police Station, Dhaka, on Sunday night.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination.
Sonia’s family hails from Uttar Char Manika in Char Fasson Upazila, Bhola. Her father, Dulal Bepari, is deceased.
According to the investigation report submitted by Sub-Inspector Din Bandhu Roy, Sonia worked at the residence of ASM Iqbal Hossain.
On Sunday night, the employer’s daughter found the domestic worker Sonia hanging by a scarf tied to a ceiling fan. Her scream alerted the family members.
The family immediately informed the police by dialling 999. Police recovered her hanging dead body at around 2am.
The SI added that preliminary investigation indicates Sonia may have taken her own life out of frustration.
Authorities are conducting a detailed inquiry to confirm the circumstances surrounding her death.
