The government has announced a 55 percent reduction in stall rents for the upcoming Ekushey Book Fair 2026, providing financial relief to publishers.
The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon by Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki at a views-exchange meeting held at the Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Auditorium of the Bangla Academy.
The meeting was attended by Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman, Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam, the member secretary of the Ekushey Book Fair management committee, and several other committee members.
Responding to various demands raised by publishers, the adviser urged them to submit written proposals to the ministry, particularly on issues related to the formulation of a national book policy and other sector-specific concerns.
He further said that publishers who have already paid stall rents will receive refunds for the excess amount, while those who have not yet made payments will be allowed to deposit the revised fees directly at the newly determined rate.
