Fifty Rohingyas have been rescued from human traffickers in separate operations conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Bangladesh Coast Guard in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
RAB-15 carried out its operation in the remote hilly area of North Shilkhali under Baharchhara Union on Tuesday night, while the Coast Guard conducted another operation along the coast near Abdul Ali Ghat in the Jummapara area of the same union.
Members of RAB-15’s CPC-2 and Whykong CPC-1 units jointly raided the hills of North Shilkhali in Baharchhara. After an extensive search operation, 24 Rohingyas 10 children were rescued from the hills, said AM Faruk, assistant superintendent of police and assistant director (Law and Media) of RAB-15.
Meanwhile, based on intelligence reports, the Coast Guard’s Baharchhara outpost team carried out another operation on the same evening along the coast near Abdul Ali Ghat in Jummapara. During the raid, 26 Rohingyas who were being prepared for trafficking to Malaysia by boat were rescued.
Media Officer of the Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Hoque confirmed the information in a press release sent to the media on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, RAB rescued 22 Rohingyas along with a Bangladeshi national in a separate operation in Teknaf on Saturday.
