Five students were injured in a bomb explosion near a women’s madrasa in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred beside Gopalpur Darussunnah Mahila Madrasa in Kalkini municipality. The injured were taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex and Madaripur Sadar Hospital.
Four of the injured are Abida, 8, Jannat, 9, Minha, 10, and Maimuna, 9. The name of the other injured could not be confirmed immediately.
Hafizur Rahman, an official of the madrasa, confirmed the incident.
Locals and police said the explosion happened in front of the house of Emon Sardar, adjacent to the madrasa, with a loud noise.
Kalkini Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Md Zahidul Alam, along with a team, visited the scene and collected evidence. He said, “The matter is under investigation. The cause of the explosion and those involved will be known after the investigation.”
When asked about the incident, Emon said, “I don’t know how a bomb exploded in front of my house.”
