Five people were killed after a dump truck ran over a vegetable-laden van in Mahadebpur upazila of Naogaon early on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Biren Pahan, 35, son of Koko Pahan, Ujjal Pahan, 38, son of Naren Pahan, Bipul Pahan, 25, son of Jhatu Pahan, Sanju Urao, 45, son of Marang Orao and Biplab Bahan, 22, son of Jhatu Pahan of Nurpur area of the upazila.
The accident occurred at dawn in the Pathakathi area of the upazila.
Mahadebpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Acting Station Officer Abul Kasem said the sand-laden dump truck was heading towards Patnitala from Mahadebpur when it lost control at Pathakathi and ran over a van carrying vegetables belonging to local farmers.
He said two people were killed on the spot, while three others were rescued in critical condition and taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
Mahadebpur Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer Imrul Kayes said three critically injured victims were brought to the hospital around 4:30 am following the road accident.
He said all three later died during treatment.
