With Eid-ul-Adha approaching, households prepare to store large amounts of meat at once. In this situation, cleaning and preparing the refrigerator in advance becomes essential. It helps keep food fresh, prevents bad odour and ensures the appliance remains in good condition for a long time.
Experts suggest simple but effective steps to clean and organise the fridge properly before the Eid rush.
First, empty the refrigerator completely. All items from both the fridge and deep freezer should be taken out. Expired, spoiled or unnecessary food must be discarded. This creates space and makes cleaning easier.
Second, use baking soda with warm water. Mix a small amount of baking soda in a bowl of lukewarm water. Then wipe the inside of the fridge using a soft cloth or sponge. This method helps remove stains and eliminate bad smell. Lemon juice can also be used as an alternative.
Third, remove drawers and shelves separately. Trays, drawers and racks should be taken out and washed properly with soapy water. They must be dried completely before putting them back, as moisture can cause ice build-up or odour.
Fourth, take steps to control bad smell. To prevent odour, place a small bowl of baking soda, coffee powder or a few slices of lemon inside the fridge. These materials absorb unwanted smells and keep the fridge fresh.
Fifth, create proper sections for storing meat. Before storing Eid meat, the deep freezer should be organised into separate compartments. Keeping meat in small packets makes it easier to store and retrieve while keeping the freezer organised.
A little preparation before the Eid rush can ensure safe, hygienic and well-organised meat storage throughout the festival period.
