Five people were killed and at least 15 others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Lohagara, Chattogram.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdullah confirmed the matter on Saturday. The accident occurred around 11am in front of Hotel Four Seasons on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway.
According to police and local sources, a Chittagong-bound bus operated by Marsa Paribahan collided head-on with another bus belonging to the same company. Following the collision, one of the buses lost control and crashed into a roadside shop, leaving the front portions of both vehicles mangled.
Police rescued the injured and recovered the body of a woman from the scene. Four others died after being taken to various facilities, including the Lohagara Trauma Centre, in critical condition. The identities of the deceased were not immediately established.
OC Abdullah said the cause of the accident is being investigated.
Dohazari Highway Police Station OC Salah Uddin Chowdhury added that the accident caused a long traffic jam on the highway. Traffic movement returned to normal after the two damaged buses were removed from the road.
