A Dhaka court on Sunday placed four suspected members of an extremist organisation on a fresh two-day remand each for further interrogation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order following an application from the investigating officer.
The suspects have been identified as Md Imran Chowdhury, 29, Md Mostakim Chowdhury, 25, Ripon Hossain Sheikh, 28, and Abu Bakkar, 25. SI Ashraful Alam of the prosecution department confirmed the court’s decision.
Earlier, the suspects were produced before the court upon the completion of their previous remand. SI Motiur Rahman Molla of the Counter Terrorism Investigation Division, who is the investigating officer (IO) of the case, sought a further seven-day remand for questioning.
Meanwhile, defence lawyer Advocate Mayed Mahmud filed a petition seeking the cancellation of the remand and prayed for bail. The state prosecution opposed the bail application. After hearing both sides, the magistrate granted the two-day remand.
The four individuals were apprehended by a team from the Ramna Division of the Detective Branch (DB) during a series of raids across various locations in the capital from last Monday night until Tuesday afternoon.
Following the arrests, Inspector Sheikh Mohammad Ali of the DB Ramna Division filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Kamrangirchar Police Station on Wednesday. The court had previously granted a four-day remand for the suspects on Thursday.
In connection with the same case, another suspect named Rabiul Islam, also known as Rashed or Sajib, was arrested in Natore on Saturday. The court subsequently granted a four-day remand for his interrogation as well.
