Four fishermen were found dead after a fishing trawler from Kutubdia capsized in the Bay of Bengal, while one fisherman remains missing.
The trawler overturned off the Kutubdia coast at around 4:30am on Monday due to inclement weather.
It was located and towed ashore on Monday evening, where the four bodies were recovered from inside the vessel.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 20, Md Karim, 21, Ayub Monir, 20, and Kamal, 48. Another fisherman, Nasir Uddin, 21, remains missing.
Inspector (Investigation) Faruk Ahmed of Kutubdia Police Station said the trawler, owned by Nurul Absar, had left for the sea on Sunday evening with 12 crew members.
Seven fishermen were rescued alive after the vessel capsized, while five were initially reported missing.
The search for the missing fisherman is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Cox’s Bazar district from recent inclement weather, including trawler capsizes, landslides and flash floods, has risen to 37.
