A total of 354 inmates cast their votes by postal ballot at Chattogram Central Jail for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum.
Prison sources said 379 inmates had applied and registered to vote, of whom ballots reached the jail for 354 inmates, allowing them to cast their votes by Saturday afternoon, with all of them also taking part in the referendum.
More than 15 inmates could not vote as their ballots had not yet arrived, Senior Jail Superintendent Md Iqbal Hossain said.
He said voting for the remaining inmates would be completed on Sunday once the ballots reached the jail.
According to prison officials, the postal ballot voting was conducted at the jail on Saturday in the presence of election officials deputed from the returning officer’s office, the jail superintendent and several prison guards.
