Three youths were sent to jail for secretly recording and sharing a female college student’s bath video on social media after failed romantic pursuit.
The accused were produced before a Chattogram District Judge Court on Tuesday, which ordered their detention, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Lutfur Rahman of Boalkhali Police Station.
The arrested youths are Imtiaz Hossain Ahad, 18, son of Ahamed Hossain of Khaja Nagar in Bengura village, Saroatali Union; Abdul Shukur Raihan Badsha, 16, son of Md Lokman; and Nurul Alam Bandhan, 19, son of Md Solaiman. Police said one of the accused is an eighth-grade student, while the other two work as day labourers. The victim is a 17-year-old female student.
The OC said the case was filed on 10 November by the victim’s mother under the Pornography Control Act. The accused were arrested following the complaint.
According to police, the perpetrators secretly recorded the video through the bathroom ventilator while the student was bathing and sent it to her relatives via Facebook Messenger.
Quoting the victim’s mother, OC Rahman said, “Ahad had repeatedly harassed my daughter with romantic proposals while she was going to college. When she rejected him, he threatened her. On Monday, a neighbour informed us that a distant relative had received the video on Facebook Messenger and forwarded it to verify its authenticity.”
The victim told authorities that on 18 July, around 2 pm, she sensed someone outside the bathroom ventilator while bathing, but the individual fled before being identified.
OC Lutfur Rahman added that Ahad, Badsha, and Bandhan’s actions not only violated the law but also caused severe social humiliation for the female student, tarnishing her reputation.
