A Jamalpur court has sentenced three people to death for the gang rape of a woman after tying up her husband.
Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict.
The convicts are Faruk Hossain, Munsur Ali and Ferdous Hossain of Pakulya Moddhyepra village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.
Another accused, Zahidul Islam of the same area, was acquitted as the charges against him were not proven.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the night of 19 July 2023 at Mecherchora intersection in the upazila.
The accused tied the victim’s husband to a tree and then gang raped his wife. The woman filed a case with Jamalpur Sadar Police Station on 20 July.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Fazlul Haque said the court delivered the verdict after recording testimonies from four witnesses.
The tribunal pronounced the death sentence against the three accused in their absence.
