Three people, including the driver of a CNG auto-rickshaw, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail on Tuesday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as Ali Akbar, 50, a resident from Senbari Village in Dhanbari, Umar Faruq, 45, from Bangali Para, Sarishabari in Jamalpur District, and Khokon, 42, from Baushi Populer, Sarishabari.
According to the eyewitnesses, the incident took place in Nalla Grameen Bank area near Nahlora Village of Dhonbari Municipality when a Jamalpur-bound bus collided with an auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction in the afternoon, leaving to two passengers in the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.
The driver of the rickshaw succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Nurul Salam Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhanbari Police Station, confirmed the deaths, stating that police immediately reached the site for investigation. “After collecting information from the scene, the identities of the deceased were confirmed.
Their bodies will be handed over to the families after the legal process,” he added.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
