Three Bangladeshi citizens have died in Iraq due to suspected food poisoning, the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad confirmed on Thursday.
According to the embassy, the incident occurred in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region. Preliminary investigations suggest that food contamination led to the deaths.
The deceased include Mohammad Tarek and Md Sabbir from Brahmanbaria, and Mehedi Hasan from Feni.
In a condolence statement, the Bangladesh Embassy in Iraq expressed deep sorrow over the untimely deaths and said it is coordinating with local authorities to provide all necessary assistance.
The tragedy underscores ongoing risks faced by expatriate workers and residents in the region, prompting calls for heightened safety measures in food handling and public health monitoring.
