Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 26 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations in a series of raids across the capital over the past 24 hours.
According to a DMP statement issued on Tuesday, the arrests were made during separate operations conducted in 18 police station areas across the city as part of an ongoing drive against members of the proscribed political party.
Among those arrested, three were detained from each of the Mirpur and Darussalam police station areas. Two arrests each were made in Ramna, Tejgaon, Shilpanchal and Vatara.
One person each was arrested from Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, Hazaribagh, Bangshal, Sutrapur, Sabujbagh, Kadamtali, Pallabi, Kafrul, Uttara West, Airport and Turag police station areas.
Police said the operations were carried out during the 24-hour period ending on 24 June.
DMP officials said the drives would continue to maintain public safety and preserve law and order in the capital.
Legal action against the arrested individuals is currently underway, the statement added.
