An auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed when a speeding truck, travelling on the wrong side of the road, struck their vehicle in Jatrabari, Dhaka.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Raju confirmed the matter. While the deceased driver has been identified as Firoz Ahmed, 50, the identity of the passenger, aged around 55, is yet to be determined.
The accident occurred at around 1am on Saturday and pedestrians rescued the two men in critical condition and transported them to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced them dead at around 2am.
OC Raju said the bodies of the deceased driver and passenger have been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Police seized the truck and detained its driver immediately following the accident.
