Two children drowned while playing near a pond in Charfesson upazila of Bhola on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Khadija Akter, 8, daughter of Md Yusuf, and Sohana, 9, daughter of Sohag Hossain, both from the same village.
The incident occurred around 2:30pm in South Hazari Ganj village under Ward No. 7 at Charfesson, police said.
According to the families, Khadija and Sohana left home to play in the morning. When they did not return by noon, relatives began searching for them.
Later, Khadija was found in a pond next to her house. She was taken to the local health complex, where doctors declared her dead.
A short while later, Sohana’s body was found floating in the same pond.
Md Fakhrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shashibhushan Police Station, visited the spot after receiving the report.
He said, “The victims’ families have not lodged any complaint. The process of filing an unnatural death case is under way.”
