A total of 2,50,012 expatriate Bangladeshis have enrolled via the “Postal Vote BD” application to participate in the upcoming 13th national parliament election and referendum.
The Election Commission (EC) published the updated statistics on its official website this morning. Data from the EC portal shows that among the registered expatriate voters, 228,781 are male and 21,231 are female.
Saudi Arabia leads in registrations with 63,034 enrolments. The United States follows with 20,049, then Qatar with 16,326, the United Arab Emirates with 14,863, Malaysia with 13,741, and Singapore with 13,165.
The EC, in a notice issued on Sunday, has prolonged the deadline for overseas voters to amend incomplete or inaccurate mailing addresses in the app untill 9am (Bangladesh Standard Time) on 9 December.
Saleem Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting (OCV) System Development and Implementation (SDI) Project, confirmed the development to the media.
In a separate notification, EC said voters assigned to election duties, government officials residing outside their constituencies, and individuals in lawful detention can also register for postal voting through the application until 25 December.
EC has called on expatriates to ensure they submit full and correct postal addresses during registration, warning that ballot papers will be undeliverable if address information is insufficient.
The initial deadline for expatriate voter registration, which was 18 December, has also been extended to 25 December, as confirmed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
