Iran has claimed to have downed more than 160 enemy drones so far, in addition to fighter jets and missiles. Brigadier General Ali Reza Elhami said the air defense units of the country’s army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) jointly achieved this success.
According to Tasnim News, while inspecting the air defense positions of the army and IRGC on Saturday, he said, “Iranian units have destroyed several advanced enemy fighter jets, more than 160 drones, and dozens of cruise missiles. Among the downed drones are MQ-9, Hermes, and Lucas models.”
Elhami said this success has shattered the attackers’ “imaginary propaganda.” He claimed that Iranian forces are lying in wait for enemy fighter jets and drones and are ready to repel any intrusion.
He further said that multiple enemy fighter jets of the fourth and fifth generations have been shot down by army and IRGC units. He claimed this is the result of their tactical skill, use of modern equipment, and the prowess of the air defense system.
The commander of the Iranian army’s air defense force said the air defense networks of the army and the IRGC are united and committed to protecting the country’s airspace at any cost.
On 28 February, after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top military officials, the United States and Israel launched major military operations across Iran. The attacks caused extensive damage to military and civilian installations and numerous casualties.
In response, Iran has continued to launch missile and drone strikes targeting US and Israeli positions in the Middle East and regional bases.
