At least 16 people were injured in clashes between local BNP activists and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters in Mirpur area of the capital on Tuesday evening.
The confrontation erupted after Jamaat supporters distributing leaflets for publicity following Maghrib prayers clashed with BNP activists in front of the Pirer Bagh Al-Mubarak Mosque, under Mirpur Model Police Station.
Most of the injured were reported to be Jamaat supporters, while several were temporarily trapped inside the mosque during the confrontation.

Police rushed to the scene and attempted to bring the situation under control. However, despite their presence, the area remained tense, with reports of chase-and-counter-chase clashes near Agargaon 60-feet road, adjacent to the mosque.
Mirpur Zone Deputy Commissioner Moinul Haque confirmed that police responded promptly after receiving information about the incident, adding that no further details were available immediately.
Tensions briefly flared following the arrival of the army, with slogans of ‘fake, fake’ chanted at the scene, though the situation later began to ease. Amid the unrest, local BNP leaders and activists expressed regret over the incident.
Meanwhile, Arman, Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated candidate for Dhaka-14, visited the area after receiving reports of attacks on party activists.
He called on supporters to remain calm and show restraint, and later took part in a protest and demonstration march.
Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further escalation.
