The government has sent 17 senior police officers, including 16 holding the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), into compulsory retirement.
The decision came in a Home Ministry notification issued on Sunday by order of the President and signed by Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury.
The officers have been retired in the public interest under Section 45 of the Government Service Act 2018 and will receive benefits as per rules, the notification said.
Those retired include Anti-Terrorism Unit DIG Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Highway Police DIG Imtiaz Ahmed, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) DIG Md Habibur Rahman, Police Headquarters DIG (TR) Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, National Security Intelligence Director Md Harun-or-Rashid, and Dhaka Police Staff College DIG SM Akhtaruzzaman.
Others include Noakhali Police Training Centre Commandant Md Haidar Ali Khan, Khulna Police Training Centre Commandant Md Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiya, Tourist Police DIG Md Ruhul Amin, Highway Police DIG Md Rafiqul Hasan Gani, River Police DIG Md Mizanur Rahman, and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali.
The list also includes Police Headquarters DIG Kazi Zia Uddin, Railway Police DIG Md Golam Rauf Khan, Rangpur Police Training Centre Commandant Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider, and Highway Police DIG Rakhfar Sultana Khanam.
Railway Police Superintendent of Police Farhat Ahmed, serving as supernumerary Additional DIG, has also been sent into retirement under the same order.
The order takes immediate effect, the notification said.
