The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Tuesday cut private liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for June as lower Saudi benchmark prices reduced import costs.
The BERC reduced the retail price of a 12-kilogramme LPG cylinder by Tk55 to Tk1,885 from Tk1,940, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.
The new rates, announced for June, will take effect from 6pm on Tuesday and remain in force until further notice.
BERC fixed the retail price of private LPG at Tk157.06 per kilogramme, down from Tk161.71 in May.
The regulator also reduced autogas prices to Tk86.93 per litre from Tk89.52 in the previous month.
BERC also reduced the price of LPG supplied through reticulated systems, where gas is distributed through central pipeline networks inside buildings or residential complexes.
Under the revised rates, LPG supplied in liquid form through reticulated systems will cost Tk153.31 per kilogramme, down from Tk157.96 in May.
Gas supplied in gaseous form through the same system was fixed at Tk340.70 per cubic metre, compared with Tk351 in the previous month.
The regulator kept the price of the state-owned bottler’s LPG unchanged at Tk776.93 for a 12.5-kilogramme cylinder under an earlier order issued in February.
BERC instructed LPG storage, bottling companies, distributors and retailers not to charge prices higher than the rates fixed by the commission at any stage of the supply chain.
