In Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria, sewing machines have been distributed to underprivileged women to make them self-reliant and economically independent.
The machines were distributed on Thursday afternoon at the initiative of the Upazila Parishad.
The administration also distributed sanitary napkins to raise health awareness among female students.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rafe Mohammad was present as the chair at the event held in the Upazila Parishad hall room.
Special guests addressing the programme included Ashuganj Press Club president Selim Parvez, Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Nurjahan Begum, Upazila Engineer Prithul Bhowmik, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Upazila Youth Development Officer Najma Begum and Academic Supervisor Md Sharifuzzaman.
Later, sanitary napkins were distributed among two thousand female students from 25 educational institutions of the upazila, and sewing machines were distributed among 27 underprivileged women.
