The inauguration ceremony of the 10th batch of Master of Applied Criminology and Police Management (MACPM) programme for the 2024-25 academic session was held on Sunday at Police Staff College Bangladesh (PSCB).
The ceremony commenced at 3:30pm with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Sarkar Omar Faruk, director (Academic) of Police Staff College Bangladesh, delivered the welcome address to the attendees.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, the IGP extended his heartiest congratulations to the selected participants of the MACPM programme. He said in a rapidly changing global landscape, policing must be modernised and kept up-to-date.
The IGP added that there is no alternative to modern knowledge, new ideas, and professional expertise in tackling complex challenges such as cybercrime, organised crime, terrorism, financial and environmental crimes, spread of misinformation, and misuse of emerging technologies.
He further said that the success of modern policing is not measured solely by apprehension of criminals, rather, its true success lies in gaining public trust, establishing the rule of law, protecting human rights, and ensuring professional integrity, accountability, and quality service for citizens.
Lauding the role of Police Staff College Bangladesh, he described it as a prestigious institution for higher police education, leadership development, and research. He said its significant contribution to increasing the professional capacity of Bangladesh Police and other government organisations.
He called upon the participants to develop themselves as strategically-minded leaders, efficient managers, ethical figures, and lifelong learners, stressing the importance of effective decision-making through research, data-driven analysis, and innovative thinking.
The event was presided over by Kazi Md Fazlul Karim, BPM-Seba, rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh. In his presidential speech, the rector expressed his sincere gratitude to the IGP for his presence and guidance. He also thanked the invited guests, senior police officers, faculty members, and participants.
He wished the 10th batch of MACPM programme overall success and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to advancing as a centre of excellence for police education, research, and professional leadership.
MACPM programme is a one-year course divided into two semesters. A total of 50 students are participating in the 10th batch, representing a diverse range of sectors, including Bangladesh Police, Armed Forces, medical professionals, the judiciary, national intelligence agencies, and other professional organisations.
The ceremony concluded in a festive and cordial atmosphere, marking another significant chapter in Police Staff College Bangladesh’s ongoing journey toward excellence in higher education and professional leadership development.
